Mark your calendar for April 19 & 20 for the very popular Member-Member or Member- Guest tournament. It’s your choice: play with a guest or pick a buddy from LAGA and enter. Each entrant must have a GHIN # and handicap.
The two-dayer will have a $45-per-player entry fee and will have free food after the second day’s play. An optional $10 team skins each day livens up the event.
$200 Hole-in-One
The Tournament Committee started a hole-in-one contest last month with a prize of $100. Nobody won it, so that $100 is added to this month’s play making it worth a grand total of $200 this time. One day will be scramble format, the other will be best-ball. Deadline for entries is 6 pm on Tuesday, April 15.
Gordon Goddard shot a sizzling 63 in March’s “either or” tournament to pace the 79
entrants and win the 5th flight by two strokes over Hiroko Hutt and CJ Riensche.
Out of the 79 players, 35 won gift vouchers or certificates, while 22 won skins and five won closest-to-the-pin. Each flight paid the top seven finishers who played either Friday or Saturday.
Bib Izzo and Avelino Muller shot 66’s to tie for the 1st flight leadership. Robert Brown and Wally Iverson tied for first in the 2nd flight with 67’s, while Floyd Sherwood burned up the course with a 65 to capture the 3rd flight and Charles Hutt captured the 4th flight with another 65. On
March 19 during Wednesday Play, Louis B. Flores, 80 years & counting, shot a 79, while Ray Kranz, 86 & holding, shot a
86. Congratulations to both these gents. Great going!!!!
(We know this isn’t the first time for Kranz,
but believe it’s the first time for
people. We’re proud of them both.

“Clean-up”, “Fix-up” Coming to
The Board of Directors has named Mike
Davidson chairman of a new committee to assist course personnel in cleaning up,
repairing, sprucing up the course and surrounding areas.
Davidson said he received a list of items
from David Salas, head greenskeeper.
The include:
1.
Repair
ball marks on greens (not just yours but others, too).
2.
Replace
divots on fairways. 3. Pick up trash
“floating” around.
4. Fill fairway
divots. 5. Fill divots on par 3
tees. 6. Pick up broken tees on tee
boxes. 7. Fill divots on range tee. 8.
Pick up broken tees on range. 9. Clean up around clubhouse (exterior).
“None of
this is strenuous or back-breaking but it’ll surely improve the looks of our
course and perhaps, by our example, we’ll teach non-member players to conduct
themselves in a caring manner,” Davidson said.
He added that there may be a designated day for an “all-out effort.”
Golf
Advisory Board Suggesting $1 Raise in Green Fees.
The City’s Golf
Advisory Board, with representatives of all four Municipal Golf Courses, plans
to recommend a $1 daily green fee increase to the City Council. The current agreement calls for a cost-of-living
increase of .49-cents “but that won’t be enough”, Board president
Mike Daniels said. He said course
coffers are limited and
“simply need an income
increase.” Golf courses receive income
ONLY from what golfers pay in. There’s
no tax money involved in the running of the courses. “The public doesn’t pay into a golf
fund. The ONLY revenue comes from
golfers,” Daniels said.
Clarification of Rules: Hole #16
Fence…no relief
There is no relief
from the fence along the left side of hole #16 (by the
car dealer-
ship. That’s a boundary fence. If you
can’t play a shot, drop the ball no closer to the hole within one club length and a one-stroke
penalty. The exception is if a man-made
object such as a sprinkler head or drip hose interferes with stance or swing,
then you get relief. If it goes through the fence, it’s out-of-bounds and you
need to go back to the original spot, take a stroke penalty and replay the
shot.
SUNFLOWER SEEDS ARE BACK; KEEP ‘EM OFF THE GREENS
Complaints are
already coming in on Wednesdays about sunflower seeds spit onto the
greens. If you like sunflower seeds,
great! But keep the shells off the
greens.
SLOW
PLAY ALREADY A PROBLEM. BE READY TO PLAY
WHEN IT’S YOUR TURN. PARK YOUR CART AWAY
FROM THE GREEN & IN LINE WITH THE NEXT TEE BOX.
Relief on #18: If you’re in the garden area between the cart bar and the green you get relief no nearer the hole. No penalty.
Relief on #8: If your ball is between the driving-range fence and the path (east of the white marker) you can drop on the other side of the cart path no closer to the hole. If it goes through the fence, it’s out-of-bounds. Go back & re-tee.

Golf
is different. No umpires or referees. Honestly!!!
The
Spirit of the Game—As you’re aware Golf is
played, for the most part, without the supervision of a referee or umpire. The game relies on the integrity of the
individual to show consideration for other players and to abide by the
rules.
Recently, your Board of Directors has heard complaints about participants violating the Rules of Golf. Some were “so-and-so improved the lie of his ball”, hitting from the wrong place, moving the ball when no rule allows you to do so, marking the ball on the green improperly or replacing the ball in a different position than it was originally. One reason why things like the above happen is ignorance of the rules of golf. A second reason is knowing the rules but disregarding them. That’s called cheating. We can try to wipe out ignorance by education. Cheaters are harder to stop. REPORT THEM.
The best way to play by the rules is to learn the rules. Once you know the rules, you can have very interesting discussions about how to interpret them. Until then, don’t guess and don’t cheat.
